Web site geek owes Applewhite big apology

Mike Downey of the Chicago Tribune penned a gem last week on the proliferation of fire [coachname] websites, in particular one directed at Joe Paterno. You can read Downey's article, although his two opening sentences sum it up fairly well:
Let's talk a little today about low-life, lily-livered, spineless, slimy, sleazy vermin with Web sites.

For example, the ones at FireJoePaterno.com
Respect.

UPDATE: Readers have asked if I am merely striking out at Downey because of the overwhelming shame I feel regarding this site. Check back next week for the answer!

UPDATE 2: I've edited the above post for brevity. The readers of this site demand less navel gazing and more non-stop attacks on a Big East quarterbacks coach. Stand by.

The ultimate insult: Syracuse plays Ty-Ball

The AP recap of the Syracuse loss to Notre Dame wields a stilleto:
The West Coast offense that Syracuse ran was reminiscent of the offense the Irish ran the past three season: ineffective and riddled with mistakes.
Ouch. Next thing you know, people will be saying that Robinson "graduates his players."

Welcome Dallas Morning News readers!

Some say that these fire [coach name] web sites have jumped the shark. Not as long as they keep getting press coverage...

The difficulty in life is the choice

Determining the editorial voice of this site can be surprisingly demanding. On the one hand, there is our stated mission, that being to promote the success (and subsequent failure) of Major Applewhite. On the other hand, we share a broader mission to advance the greater good.

Occasionally, these priorities conflict.

On Saturday, Syracuse (1-7, 0-5 Big East) takes on the South Florida Bulls (4-3, 2-1 Big East) at home. With the Orange's final two opponents being Notre Dame and Louisville, many view this week's game as the last chance for Robinson & Co to win a second game and avoid the always painful 10-loss season. We hope they lose.

Shocked? Don't be... we bear Major no animus. South Florida, however, has the opportunity to go to a BCS bowl if they win the remainder of their games and nothing would be (i) worse for the Big East, (ii) worse for the SEC and (iii) correspondingly, better for the rest of us, than if that were to occur.

Prediction: USF 31 SU 13

Tidbits--

1. Major's old nemesis Chris Simms is struggling in Tampa Bay

2. Texas QB Vince Young should surpass Major's school record for single-season total yards this week against Kansas

3. The New York Times (the college football fan's bible) lists Syracuse as one of the three most disapointing teams this year:
What went wrong? Everything. The program was stagnant under Paul Pasqualoni, but at least they were competitive. Greg Robinson's hyped-up "wide open" West Coast offense has found no traction.
4. This site was named Reluctant Bone Toss To Dogs of the Day by All Things Longhorn!
